Some of our Year 7 Language students are involved in a novel way of improving their language skills and making new friendships by participating in the 'The Grow a Flower Project'. Twinned with counterparts in Germany, the students will work in teams exchanging letters, swapping pictures on the Internet and generally getting to know each other. The difference is that each team has been given a sunflower seed to grow and care for, symbolic of the growing friendships. At LSA the seedlings are now big enough to plant out in one of the school gardens. It is hoped that news of the seedlings will feature in the exchange as the flowers mature.
Sandra Underwood, School Link Coordinator said "This has been a motivating project for Year 7 as well as good fun. Students have taken responsibility for their own plants yet are working in collaboration with each other and their German friends. They have also provided invaluable peer support by checking written German for their letters to their pen friends.
