Pyramid Club Leaders
LSA Technology and Performing Arts College is looking to recruit about 6 volunteers to run Pyramid Clubs for children transferring from local primary schools this summer.
The clubs will be run for selected year 6 children who may be quiet or withdrawn, anxious about the transfer to secondary school or possibly worried about making new friends and settling into the new environment.
Two adult leaders are required for each club, which will contain no more than 10 children. In addition, two sixth form students will be appointed to help the leaders. The clubs will run for just ten one and a half hour sessions on Tuesday afternoons in June, July and September 2010. The first club meeting will be on 8th June, the last one on 14th September. There will be one Pyramid Club day in the school summer holidays.
The aim of the clubs is to boost the children’s self-esteem and confidence, and the atmosphere will be positive and supportive at all times. Clubs will include ‘circle time’ (for talking), games and simple crafts and a snack and drink. There will be an outing one week and the clubs will end with a party.
Leaders must be aged 18 or over – and there is no upper age limit provided applicants are prepared to work actively with lively 10 and 11 year olds. Men and women both welcome. Parents of children at either the High School or local primary schools are welcome to apply provided they do not have children in the current Year 6.
No formal qualifications are necessary – experience of working with or bringing up children is ideal. Youth organisations’ volunteers will have the ideal training and experience to help run these clubs. This vacancy is also suitable for students either currently undertaking teacher training or intending to do so.
Successful applicants will be subject to CRB clearance and given full training. The Pyramid Club Co-ordinator (Sue Strother) will be on site the whole time to provide back up and help with any difficulties or problems that may arise.
