Students at Lytham St Annes High School were delighted to welcome bestselling author Sarah Underwood as part of LSA Lit Fest 2026.

Sarah’s debut novel, Lies We Sing to the Sea, became an instant New York Times, indie and international bestseller, and students were given a fascinating insight into the journey behind the book and the world of professional writing.

During her visit, Sarah delivered an engaging talk to Year 10 and Year 11 students, sharing how her love of mythology and storytelling developed into a career as a published author. She spoke about the creative process behind her novel, the challenges of writing and publishing, and the importance of perseverance when pursuing creative ambitions.

Selected Year 8 and Year 9 students also had the opportunity to take part in interactive writing workshops, where Sarah guided them through activities designed to spark creativity and develop their storytelling skills. Students explored ways to build characters, develop ideas, and think imaginatively about their own writing.

The visit was an inspiring experience for students across the school and a fantastic part of LSA Lit Fest 2026, which celebrates reading, creativity and the power of storytelling.
