Headteacher's Blog #3

This week we celebrated our first big sporting success of the year. We played host to the Year 10 and 11 Fylde and Wyre netball tournament. There were 18 teams participating, the event was a great success. We were delighted to announce that LSA were crowned winners in both year groups. Our netball tradition is now unrivalled locally and years of high-quality coaching from our PE staff has meant that we now dominate. We are looking forward to hosting the Year 9 tournament on 7th October and hopefully continuing our winning streak.

On a more challenging note, we are becoming a little concerned regarding the attitudes and behaviours of some of our Year 10 and 11 boys. There is an increasing trend in speaking to and about women and girls in derogatory and sometimes offensive and intimidating ways. I have been a headteacher for a long time and know well how the testosterone fuelled hormonal rush of mid-puberty can bring changes in behaviour, however there is never an excuse for this behaviour. Making sure that young men build healthy relationships and understand women and girls as people, not objects, is key to their development. It will also create a better society, with better partners, brothers and fathers. Please speak to your children about this, we will be doing some direct work in the coming months.
