Sometimes schools are miraculous places and last night's meet the tutor evening and careers event exemplified this well. In the run up to the evening everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong. Our longstanding parents' evening system fell down, and we had to improvise at speed. A number of our tutors and leaders were off with injuries and illness, and the weather had been filthy all day. On top of this we were launching new assessment information for parents at Key Stage 3, for the first time giving them valuable information about the progress of their child. Events were well and truly conspiring against us. I was however amazed by the way that everything pulled together, this is the epitome of school spirit and demonstrated what I already know, that I am lucky to have such an excellent staff body.
When we arrive back after half term, I would like you to please speak to your children about road safety, especially those children who travel to and from school on their bikes. Pulling wheelies on main roads is a recipe for disaster and having dealt with a road death earlier in my career, I can tell you that the repercussions can be fatal. Those of you who drop your children off at the school and who pick them up at the end of the day will know that I am on the corner every night, ensuring that our young people leave the school calmly and safely. Over the past three weeks parents have begun parking in our taxi waiting zone. This week I had to manoeuvre cars around the zone to shepherd a minibus into the school. Please don't park in this area, it is dangerous and a young person will inevitably be hurt. Please park away from the school and ask your child to walk to meet you. Your support would be appreciated. I end this term, as ever, proud to be LSA!
