I am going to use this blog to celebrate some of the wonderful achievements of the school in our first half term. Buoyed by GCSE examination results which placed us in the top 25% of schools nationally for attainment (a wonderful achievement for a non-selective comprehensive school) we have hit the ground running. The wonderful thing about life at LSA is that we celebrate and promote activities and achievements that go beyond the narrow confines of the National Curriculum or examination preparation. The PTFA have funded a new school stage that we will use to showcase the marvellous music and drama which we support so fully at the school. It will also, of course be the new stage for our annual LSA's Got Talent contest in the next half term. Our sporting teams continue to excel and in the last half term we hosted the Fylde and Wyre netball tournament. In early October we hosted a magnificent careers fair with over 25 employers represented. Finally, our 'More than Grades' offer continues to grow, with many clubs bursting at the seams. Our chess and crochet clubs continue to be amongst our most oversubscribed activities, proving the enduring allure of traditional games and crafts. Schools should be joyous places, and I am proud that LSA continues to promote activities that give students joy.
In the first term we have been tightening our expectations around student behaviour, uniform and truancy; this work will continue as these basic expectations help the learning of all students and ensure that young people are properly prepared for life beyond school. I'd like to thank the entire school community for their support. I'd also like to ask for all of your support with improving attendance this term. As the nights draw in and darkness envelopes us, it is easy to allow our young people the odd day off school. A day's learning missed is a day that cannot be replaced, so can we please keep pushing to continue our much-improved attendance through to Christmas.
