Image of Year 7 Explore Weather Through Creative Geography Lesson

Year 7 students have been getting hands on in Geography lessons by creating their own “cloud plates” to help them understand different types of clouds and what they reveal about the weather.

As part of the lesson, pupils divided a paper plate into four sections, with each quarter representing a different cloud type such as stratus, cumulus and cirrus. Using cotton wool, colouring and labels, students modelled the appearance and position of each cloud, linking their designs to weather conditions and cloud formation.

The practical activity helped bring learning to life, allowing students to visualise abstract concepts and apply their knowledge in a creative way. Alongside the models, pupils also recorded key facts in their books to reinforce their understanding.

The lesson encouraged creativity, teamwork and curiosity, while supporting core geographical knowledge about weather and climate. A great example of active learning in action within the Geography department.
