I am looking forward to the summer term with excitement; there is so much to celebrate and with the promise of better weather and longer nights we can all enjoy a glorious British summer. I promised before Easter that we would send you all details of our work on improving communication between parents and the school. I know from speaking to parents that one of the biggest frustrations that they face is communication and a lack of efficient follow up to concerns or queries. Often you are unclear who to contact and when messages are left, there is sometimes not swift enough follow up. We have been working this year to restructure our support teams and ensure that each of our key teams has a key administrator, someone who can deal with a query or a concern and ensure that it is followed up. This letter explains our approach, and I hope that it helps you better navigate our lines of communication. We have also added details to our website so that you can better communicate with form tutors. This was a key target when I started in September, and I hope that we have made progress in improving this perennial bugbear.

Last term saw real progress made on improving school attendance, whilst we are still lagging behind national figures, we are nearly 2% above last year's attendance figure. This has meant making tough decisions and challenging cultures. I really appreciate your support, raising teenagers is tough and getting them to school even tougher, the more we strengthen the routine of consistent good attendance the more lives we all improve. This is especially true for our year 11s who are in their final weeks of compulsory education prior to the exam season starting. It is vital that they stay with us until the end of their academic journey, these final weeks are crucial and because they are a year group with historically low attendance, give us the chance to plug gaps and ensure that they are prepared. They have so much potential it would be a shame not to capitalise on these final, crucial weeks. Thank you in advance for your support this term, I remain, as ever, proud to be LSA.
