I'd like to start this week by reporting back on our parent survey on the use of mobile phones. Nearly 300 of you contributed and your involvement was very much appreciated. I have included the results with this blog, and I will inform you of the main findings and next steps. The main findings are:
- The majority of parents felt that mobile phones were very important for young people to have before and after school but felt that they shouldn't be allowed during the school day.
- The majority of parents felt that the best method of enforcement was that mobile phones should be switched off and kept in bags during the school day.
- Nearly all of you reported that your children brought their mobile phones to school.
- Many of you felt that there was a lack of clarity over the current mobile phone policy and its enforcement.
From September the strengthened DfE guidance is that students should not have access to mobile phones during the school day, so we will need to work with you all to strengthen our rules on mobile phone use. We also need to make clear, concise and easily understood rules and sanctions so that you can support us in making our mobile phone policy work. It is clear that we can't put the mobile phone genie back in the bottle, but we can do all that we can to mitigate the damage. We will come back to you all after half term with updated rules and guidance. Thank you so much for your excellent contributions.
We are particularly proud to be LSA this week as we have reached three Lancashire cup football finals. Our year 7 and 8 girls and our year 9 boys will be representing the school; I'd like to wish them the best of luck and congratulate them for their efforts so far.
Finally, I'd like to wish all of our year 11s a successful exam period. I am sure that their hard work and dedication will result in excellent exam results again this year. Thank you all for your ongoing support of the school and its young people.
