Headteacher's Welcome Letter

Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to extend a very warm welcome back to all our students and families as we begin a new 
academic year at Lytham St Annes High School. Tomorrow marks the start of another exciting chapter 
for our school, and we look forward to working in close partnership with you to ensure every child 
achieves their full potential. I look forward to my second year as headteacher and the continuation of 
our improvement journey.

I would like to congratulate our Year 11 students on another successful set of GCSE results this 
summer. There were many individual success stories and achievements to celebrate, with strong 
performances across a number of subjects and continued improvement in several key areas. It was 
also reassuring to see an increase in the very top grades, a testament to our students and experienced 
staff. These results reflect the hard work of our students, the dedication of our staff and the invaluable 
support of parents and carers. Most importantly, they give us confidence that the school is moving in 
the right direction and that the future is bright for Lytham St Annes High School.

Whilst we are proud of these achievements, we remain ambitious for every young person in our care. 
This year we will continue to focus on improving attendance, securing consistently high-quality 
teaching, developing literacy and reading, supporting vulnerable learners and ensuring that all students 
achieve the outcomes they deserve. We have a clear plan for improvement and a strong sense of 
purpose and pride.

The most successful schools are those where staff, students and families work together. Your support 
remains invaluable. Regular attendance, high standards, positive communication and shared 
expectations create the foundations for success. By working together, we can ensure that every 
student feels supported, challenged and inspired throughout the year ahead.

Our mobile phone policy remains in place and forms an important part of creating a calm, focused and 
safe learning environment. Mobile phones should be switched off and kept in bags throughout the 
school day. We are placing our trust in students to do the right thing. If phones remain switched off and 
out of sight, there will be no need for confiscations, sanctions or unnecessary conversations. We want 
our students to focus on learning, friendships and the opportunities available to them throughout the 
school day; we are confident that the overwhelming majority will rise to this expectation.

We greatly appreciate the support of parents and carers in reinforcing this simple expectation before 
students leave home each morning. The positive impact of the school's mobile phone policy on 
students' experience has already been recognised through student feedback and forms an important 
part of our work to create a calm and purposeful school environment.
 
A high standard of uniform reflects the high standards that we have for all students. Students should 
arrive at school wearing the correct uniform and ready to learn from the moment they arrive on site.
We recognise that some students prefer trousers while others prefer skirts, and both are equally 
welcome as part of our school uniform. Students choosing to wear a skirt should wear plain black 
opaque tights to help maintain the smart and professional standards that we are proud of at Lytham St 
Annes High School. Uniform expectations, including guidance on footwear, jewellery, make-up and 
equipment, can be found on the school website. We ask parents and carers to check these 
requirements carefully so that students can make a positive start to the year.

The future of our school is extremely positive. We are continuing to invest in improving the quality of 
education, strengthening support for students and creating the very best opportunities for every young 
person. We are already seeing the impact of improvements in teaching, curriculum provision, literacy, 
inclusion and school culture, and we are determined to build on this momentum throughout the 
coming year.

Most importantly, we want every student to feel safe, valued and successful. We want them to attend 
regularly, work hard, take pride in their school and leave us equipped for successful futures. With your 
support, I am confident that this academic year will be another positive step forward for Lytham St 
Annes High School.
