Image of Work Experience from Germany
Seven students from our Comenius partner school Realschule Broich, Mülheim an der Ruhr, took part in a pilot project last week which involved spending two days in school and one week on work placement. The students spent 12 days in Lytham working and visiting the sights over the weekend. They gained experience working in local business such as The Dalmeny Hotel, Jack's Bistro, Noblett Surveyors, Lytham Primary and Hall Park Primary as well as LSA Catering. We owe a huge thank you to the community for providing the opportunity for the exchange students to be able to experience our culture and work life. This was a fantastic collaboration of schools and community working together. The visiting students were accommodated with host families from our school.

German Student Jonathan Giese said, "It was a really fun experience working in the primary school. I played lots of sport and helped them with their computer lessons. All the children kept asking me "say something in German"!

Tristan Strahler said, "I was working in the kitchen at the hotel and I really enjoyed it and learned a lot about working with food. I was given a uniform to wear so I felt like one of the staff.

Sandra Underwood, School Link Coordinator said, "This project is the first of its kind at LSA and I am glad to say it was a great success. Students from our school hosted some of the students and the students from Germany were able to practise their English and us our German. Spending two days in school also benefited the students as they followed some of our students and their timetable." Providing our students with these types of international exchanges is a great way for them to learn about other cultures and become more global in their way of thinking."

The aim is to reciprocate the expereience by offering our new cohort of GCSE German students or those that have up to Year 9 German the opportunity to go to Germany and take part in a similar work placement project next academic year. If you would like your child to participate in this project please contact me at the school.
