Image of Year 8 Students Explore Yoga Through Religious Studies

On Tuesday, all Year 8 students took part in a special yoga session as part of their Religious Studies curriculum.

During this term, students have been studying Hinduism and exploring different forms of Hindu worship, including the role of yoga. While many people today practise yoga for its physical and mental wellbeing benefits, students also learned about its origins and significance within Hindu traditions, where it can be used as a way of connecting with oneself, personal beliefs and achieving a sense of inner calm.

To bring their classroom learning to life, every Year 8 student participated in a practical yoga session led by our very own Mrs Salisbury. The experience gave students the opportunity to understand first-hand why millions of people around the world, both religious and non-religious, choose to incorporate yoga into their daily lives.

Throughout the day, students approached the session with enthusiasm and an open mind, fully engaging with every activity and challenge. They demonstrated excellent behaviour, listened carefully to instructions and embraced the opportunity to try something new. A number of staff members also joined in, proving to be surprisingly talented yogis themselves!

Experiences like these help students make meaningful connections between classroom learning and the wider world, allowing them to develop a deeper understanding of different beliefs, cultures and practices.

A huge thank you to Mrs Salisbury for delivering such an enjoyable and informative session, and well done to all of our Year 8 students for representing LSA so brilliantly.
